Pupuseria Irene, nestled at 2218 University Blvd E in Hyattsville, MD, offers a delightful escape into Salvadoran cuisine. The vibrant decor, featuring charming wall paintings and festive lights, sets the perfect ambiance for a casual dining experience. Customers rave about the authentic flavors, especially the pupusas, which come highly recommended for their taste and value. One satisfied diner, Paul, emphasizes the affordable prices, making it an ideal spot for gatherings with friends and family.
However, not all reviews are glowing. Yenifer Montero Figueroa points out consistent issues with rude service, which has marred her visits despite loving the food. Despite this, many customers like Daniela Ochoa Gonzalez cherish the excellent curtido and the inexpensive meals, often costing less than $10 for a family of three.
For those new to Salvadoran fare, this venue presents an incredible opportunity to explore dishes like beans and cheese pupusas, and perhaps even crispy fried chicken, as noted by first-time visitor Terence. While service may pose a challenge, the culinary experience at Pupuseria Irene remains a compelling reason to visit, ensuring a flavorful adventure in every bite.

Nice paintings on the wall. Muted wall mounted tv set to a Spanish channel, festive lights all add to a delightful atmosphere. The food ain't bad either!

I had no idea what pupusas were until I relocated to the area. Want delicious food at a reasonable price? Come here with friends or family and you won’t be disappointed!

The food is delicious, the only problem that they always have is the service from the waitress. They can hire 1000 different waitresses and all of them are so rude with the clients, I don’t know why? I have been there 3 times already and is the same problem. I going just to stop going there.

Best curtido we have eaten in a long time. Loves the beans and cheese Pupusas and didn’t care much for the Loroco one. Where else can you get a balanced meal for 3 for less than 10?

It was my first time here, and i must say best fried chicken I had at a place other than home. Though a little expensive I couldn't complain. I will return to try other dishes as I see myself coming back in the near future.

I went for breakfast. I really enjoyed the 2 eggs breakfast with black beans, plantains with sour cream, avocado and tortillas. I also got chicken tamales. The food was fresh and tasted very delicious. The tortillas were homemade and made at the moment, which made my breakfast even better! The tamales had very good flavor and the chicken was cooked perfectly. I also had a cup of coffee and it was hot and fresh! The location is small for dine in. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a plato tipico from El Salvador.
